Initially I started this blog for no particular reason, I just thought it would be fun. So I told my friends, “guess what? I started a blog!” and do you know what everyone’s first reaction was? “Cool! What is it about?” and for that I had no answer. For the last few days I have been trying to think of a focus and after much deliberation I have decided!!
Poor Posture:
In this instance i’m referring to a model, an inadequate one at that. A poor posture, in my mind, is the product of humanity’s greatest gift (which is also the source of society’s major downfalls): our need for understanding. This need drives us towards discovery, makes us ask questions, and even pulls us together! But we can only understand through our common sensory faculties (sight, hearing, scent, touch, tasting). Even the most sophisticated of ideas can only be understood at this level!
So it stands to reason that our understanding is limited and imperfect.
In that case, you may ask “how do we combat our cognitive restrictions?” To completely over simplify the answer to that question: we make models.
Whether it is a set of rules, a figure showing a piece of DNA, a drawing of a dress, a painting of a sunset, an outline of a book, a map of the world, or a mathematical equation of a line; we spend the majority of our lives making models!
We use models to gain a better understanding of whatever we are trying to model, but just as our understanding is imperfect so are the copies of the aspects of life that we are trying to copy :). It’s a poor posture.
